Major Breakthrough in Meditation after 25 centuries – the Mystic Rose

“It is the first major breakthrough since Vipassana twenty five centuries ago” Osho on the Mystic Rose Meditation.  Shantam comments.

The other day, I was touched by the photos of the Mystic Rose meditation led by  Ma Leela at Osho Nisarga, Dharamshala, the centre developed by the two inner circle members who were unceromoniuouly banned from the
Pune Resort some years ago.

It was also surprising that the Resort, where this meditation was developed and given to seekers by Osho himself has not shared the information that this year is the 25th anniversary of the Osho Mystic Rose..

Let this quote below be part of the sannyas news archives and let us salute the master continually thereby..

…. “I have chosen Leela, one of my therapists to create a new meditative therapy. The first part will be laughter “Yaa-Hoo!” – for three hours, people simply laugh for no reason at all.  And whenever their laughter starts dying they say, “yaa-hoo!’, and it will come back. Digging for three hours you will be surprised how many layers of dust have gathered upon your being. It will cut them like a sword in one blow. For seven days continuously, three hours every day…you cannot conceive how much transformation can come to your being.

And then the second part is tears. The first part removes everything that hinders your laughter – all the inhibitions of past humanity, all the repressions. It cuts them away. It brings a new space within you, but still you have to go a few steps more to reach the temple of your being, because you have suppressed so much sadness, so much despair,
so much anxiety, so many tears – they are all there covering you and destroying your beauty, your grace, your joy.

In old Mongolia they had an ancient idea that every life, whatever pain is suppressed…and pain is suppressed, because nobody wants it. You don’t want to be painful so you suppress it, you avoid, you look somewhere else. But it remains. And the Mongolian idea was – and I agree with it – that life after life it goes on accumulating in you;
it becomes almost a hard shell of pain. That’s why  all the saints and the sages have been telling you, shouting ,Go into yourself!” You listen to them, but you don’t go. There is a reason why you don’t go; you know that going in, you have to encounter pain; going in you  have to encounter misery, suffering, agony. It is better to remain outside
- engaged, busy. Never be alone, because in your aloneness you may unconsciously start moving inwards. Being alone, having nothing else to do, you may start looking inwards…..

……..If you go in you will find both laughter and tears.

That’s why sometimes it happens that by laughing, suddenly you find tears also start coming together with it – very confusing, because ordinarily we think they are contrary. When you are full of tears it is not a time to laugh, or when you are laughing it is not the right season for tears. But existence does not believe in your concepts, ideologies; existence transcends your concepts, which are dualistic, which are based on duality . Day and night, laughter and tears, pain and blissfulness, they both come together.

When a man reaches into his innermost being he will find the first layer is of laughter and the second layer is of agony, tears. So for seven days you have to allow yourself to weep, cry for no reason at all – just the tears are ready to come, you are preventing them. Just don’t prevent!

This is absolutely my meditation.

Leela will be in charge of it and you will be surprised that no meditation can give you so much as this small strategy. This is my experience of many meditations, that what has to be done is to break two layers in you. Your laughter has been repressed; you have been told, “Don’t laugh, it is a serious matter.” You are not allowed to laugh in a church, or in a university class……

So the first layer is of laughter, but once laughter is over you will suddenly find yourself flooded with tears, agony. But this too will be a great unburdening phenomenon.  Many lives of pain and suffering will disappear.  If you can get rid of these two layers you have found yourself……..

If you cry and weep without any reason, just as an exercise, a meditation…nobody will believe it. Tears have never been accepted as meditation. And I tell you, they are not only a meditation, they are a medicine also. You will have better eyesight and you will have better inner vision.  I am giving you a very fundamental technique, fresh and unused. And it is going to become worldwide, without any doubt because it’s effects will show anybody that the person has become younger, the person has become more graceful…. more flexible, less fanatic; the person has become more joyful, more celebrant.”

I’ve never done a full Mystic Rose, it is a big commitment, tho I’ve done bits of it (here and there) years ago. I think the combination of “Dynamic and Kundalini” are probably Osho’s king and queen of mediations. The Mystic Rose is very powerful but a bit too long for most people which simply means that it is not going to get done much. To be honest I don’t think I have three hours of laughter in me, or tears for that matter.

  2. shantam prem says:

Bodhi Vartan, Swami like you fully devoted to Osho´s books should get the three weeks for Master´s departing present, unique group meditation called Mystic Rose.
Question is about the finances and where to do?
I don´t think this group is supported by NHS, neither I think it is possible to gather 20, 30 people even if the facilitator leaves the fliers into all the UK´s esoteric and second hand books shops.
So best possibility is to do this in India.
I think Pune offers every month. participation is very thin, price very thick.
Leela offers once a year at Nisarga. I have no idea how much is the cost.
Other day I have seen one page at facebook, one young chap is facilitating Mystic Rose free of cost at Arambol, Goa.
In the photo, guy was surrounded by Russian looking five six women. It means three weeks of laughter, crying and watching can be fun..

I am going to give it a miss for now as it’s not in the forefront of my attention. Thanks anyway. I am aware that it’s Osho’s last invented meditation … and I am sure one day it will come my way.

These days the power of laughter is more or less accepted universally but when Osho started working with it, it was really early days. He probably got it from the human potential movement because I remember laughing sessions going on in sannyas groups long before the Mystic Rose …

The crying part is a secret we are not going to talk about on an open forum. It might take humanity a few more years to catch up with that.

  3. Lokesh says:

‘The first major breakthrough since Vipassana twenty five centuries ago.’ This sounds like pure hype. What about sensory deprevation, psychedelics and dozens of other things that help one break on through to the other side? Typical Osho. Life goes on and I’m off to do my preffered form of meditation right now, cutting wood and fetching water. Nothing new about that, but it works just fine in my life.

  4. shantam prem says:

    fetching water?
    From Spar!

    • Lokesh says:

Shantam, I fetch my water from a well. My house sits on top of a huge water deposit fed by underground rivers that have their sourch in the Pyrannes mountains in northern Spain. It is said that some of the water takes 10,000 years to reach here through a porous system of aquifiers. Your perspective is that of a city dweller.

  5. shantam prem says:

SPAR, the world biggest cooperative of retailors has given me the idea may be most of the sannyas center leaders, facilitators, books music and Mala distributors may be in their past life were connected through the retail trade, now with the same priniciples, they are trading the occult and esoteric, massage and Ayurveda massage, Past life to Aura Soma; technically all that what can occupy the shelf for the inner seeker.
    And what is my role?
To be true, Spar is in the bottom three of the retailors. With Sannyas, I have no choice, other than the little effort to fix the leakage.

  7. Kavita says:

Shantam I read your post but every time , I felt like putting my thoughts into words , I went blank .

my first mystic rose in feb 1994 , then the 2nd was in aug 1998 & 3 rd was in aug 2008 .Crying has been the easiest for me , laughing is the hardest , even though I laugh a lot otherwise , silence is not as hard as laughing .

these days there hasn’t been any urge to do any kind of meditation .

  8. SCIFI says:

if you Pe POLE really wanna surrender to PARAM SHUNYATA …. 1st thing u have to do is , leave this board. and truly NJOyyy life and ask for nothing , stop seeking and total trust towards PARAM SHUNYATA…. thats it !!!!

  9. shantam prem says:

Lokesh. it makes me really curious to try at least one glass of water from a well, where water reaches after thousand year journey. just to think this, my eyes are getting watery.
Seems like, I am not always sarcastic, ironic and some what snobbish..

  10. Lokesh says:

“It is the first major breakthrough since Vipassana twenty five centuries ago….absolute silence on SN.’ Osho.

  11. shantam prem says:

I have not seen obitury of Frank in any of the web sites, then why he is silent?

    • prem martyn says:

Frank’s last exchange was following some unfinished business w big P , over whether or not he, Frank, actually considered unified gaga consciousness via various beloved masterful ones to be either interesting , valid, sellable, factual, or worthy of any further comments on SN.

      He then went awol.

Either that or he has become enlightened, in a sulking type manner, and furtively reads SN whilst on the job to remind himself of the world of maya.
He maya come back , or he maya not.

  12. Parmartha says:

It’s a typical Osho promo this blurb about Mystic Rose.
Zazen is the only revolutionary meditation, and that’s because it ain’t one!

  13. shantam prem says:

    Parmartha,
Writing Mystic Rose as typical Osho Promo means also that you were cut off from the happenings on the ground level. It also shows, how Osho management is living in Ivory towers of beliefs, thinking products will walk from the shelf straight into customers kitchen.
A passionate chairman would have created a typical Osho Promo to invite all the life long sannyasins to come and share this newest meditation.
Surely Zazen will look like Nokia in comparison to Samsung, only when someone has tried the latest.

    • satyadeva says:

      Shantam:
“A passionate chairman would have created a typical Osho Promo to invite all the life long sannyasins to come and share this newest meditation.”

Why on earth should anyone be ‘expected’ to do this, as if it’s some sort of imperative, ‘essential’ for all?!
The hype is truly laughable, it’s enough to bring tears to the eyes…

No more to be said, the rest is silence….

  14. shantam prem says:

    Satya Deva,
it is a part of the job for the high priests to make their departed Messiahs and masters available in the presentable packing, the way it is a job of the banker to invest small savings in big projects, the way it is a job of the door man to persuade people to come in xxx club.
I also know, there are masters who don´t like such gimmicks…Good for them. It is like kiosk holders, they don´t have any advertisement budget!

One has to think, and think wisely, in which category Osho projected Himself into?
