Well, Satchit, this remark doesn’t gel with your previous statement, where you downplay the significance of the new name.

When I say that he was simply saying what came into his head at that time, it means he acted out of spontaneity and intuition.
Who says there is no significance in this?

So when Osho gave people their new names in darshans and carefully explained their meanings, as often recorded in the ‘Darshan Diaries’, do you think he was simply saying whatever came into his head at the time, […]

The only meaning I see is:
Don’t take names so seriously, don’t take sannyas so seriously!
If you want to take it as a hint for your life, why not, it’s your freedom.

I don’t think the names Osho gave “are simply the first thing that came to his mind”, for those of us who met Osho and had a darshan with him there was definitely a meaning to the names.
It pointed you in a […]

Is it not today that you can choose alone what sannyas name you want for yourself?
The story you make around your name depends on your mind. Some say, a name is a name is a name.
There is a nice joke re why he […]

Today I was fortunate enough to come across Emile Coue, a French pharmacist who developed a hypnotic autosuggestion technique called the Coue Method back in 1910… a fascinating episode in medical and self-help […]

New article!
I have often wondered, what was in the meaning of the names that Osho gave his sannyasins? Were they pointers as to the spiritual direction that you should follow, or were they a comment on what you were deep […] -

APPEAL FOR FUNDS!
(First posted on 26 September as another topic, reposted here as so far almost no response).Over two weeks ago SN was landed with a bill for £84.05, larger than expected as the new web host […]

In the old annals of SN there is some mention of Anand Subhuti and his book ‘My Dance with a Madman’. I thought what a great title! It resonates with the Osho quote above, “this is an illogical place, irrational, […]

Nobody has a vibe because he is a sannyasin.
Some did only replace one conditioning with another one.
And some have a vibe without ever having heard of sannyas.
Reminds me of the story that only an enlightened […]

Appeal for funds, yes, let’s hope it goes well…
This I came across this morning:
“There are people who want everything clean, clear-cut, logical, so that their mind can figure out what it is. This is an […]

So you don’t think sannyasins have a particular vibe which one can learn to recognise?

Seems this is more a linguistic problem, NP.
I call “sannyasin” an Osho-disciple.
You call “sannyasin” a searcher in general, if he feels auhentic for you.

I wouldn’t say things are as simple as that. Haven’t you ever come across someone in ordinary life and thought, “that person feels like a sannyasin”?
It’s not about how you identify yourself but the way people […]

Things are simple, NP.
If I call myself a sannyasin, then I am a sannyasin.
If I don’t call myself a sannyasin, then I am no sannyasin.Basically it is a play and no reason to judge for others.
Anyway, the […]

Which leads me on to the topic, what […]

Osho loved to provoke. I recently saw him called a “Master of Controversy”, which to a certain extent was true. What did that mean for his sannyasins? Of course you continually got pointed at your own hang-ups, […]
