My Question of the Day:
Why do sannyasins often experience extreme hostility and anger from other non therapist sannyasins when they mention the least bit perceived shortcoming of a sannyasin therapist even if they have made also some positive comments about this sannyasin therapist? In other words, why are positive comments are extremely welcome while negative comments are taboo? I remember Kartar posted something about a year ago to sannyasnews that said something along these lines of what I am saying now.
What an odd question. You talk about sannyasins as if they all react in this way. I’m sure there’s some that do but not all.
I have a suspicion this is all a bit hypothetical, when was the last time you actually had a conversation like this with a sannyasin and got this response?
I see your saying, if the negative gets mentioned, then sannyasins react. Not such strange behaviour, go have a conversation with anyone and negatively counter their views, see what happens. How many fights, wars even, have been fought defending a view point?
You ask, why are positive comments extremely welcome (extremely?) and negative ones taboo. Well, I would say, its not that they’re taboo, its like I said in the last sentance, people have investments in their viewpoints and especially, if they’re speaking from experience, they may not be able to make room for a view that contradicts their own.
I think the situation arises a bit like this, if someone’s had a hard time in a therapy group, they may well want to trash the group leader and often they’re likely to go shout about it. The thing is, the rest of the participants may not have had such a hard time, may even have enjoyed it and dare I say even benefited from it. So, they go away, hug a friend and feel good about themselves for a few days. Meanwhile, the poor sod that had a hard time, may even have been abused, is shouting about it to all and sundry, and continues to do so for many months/years. So what you end up with is a distorted picture, an unbalanced representation because the rest of the participants have not been publicising their experience. Somewhere, I think most sannyasins know this and thats why you can get them reacting on negative aspertions.
Now having said all that, if you want the low down on therapists no better place than to search the words of Osho himself. He’s has put them in their place quite a few times.
No not all sannyasins react in this way. I had a few bad experiences with therapy groups but I discovered that it was wrong to invalidate the positive experiences that others experienced as much as it was wrong for others to invalidate my experiences. That is where things are confusing. Nothing is black and white. Some psychologists call this cognitive dissonance. The mind cannot accept contradictions. We should not be angry at what others experience but develop instead a curiosity of where the person is coming from.
I just wish there was dialogue between group participants and therapists. My message to most therapists is that they have beautiful things in their groups but there are harmful things to be aware of as well.
’We should not be angry at what others experience but develop instead a curiosity of where the person is coming from.’
I couldn’t agree more, then there is a chance of fruitful dialogue, and a possibility for both side to see new perspectives.
maybe in the past, I felt vengeful and wanted to destroy therapists’ careers but today I am beyond that.
I would like to see dialogue between Veeresh, Chandrika et al and those who felt that they got negative experiences from the Humaniversity. When I hear that they ban people who criticize them or attempt to shut down blogs and websites that have dissent against the Humaniversity then the only thing that I can see about Veeresh, Chandrika do not have good will towards others for better communication (which is hypocritical because they promote the Humaniversity for friendship) As a consequence people can not help thinking that Veeresh, Chandrika et al have only malevolent motives such as greed for money etc.
The Brazilian sannyasin who has the website about Aum Meditation and The Humaniversity was making constructive criticisms of the Humaniversity. In my opinion, he wanted to see a better Humaniversity. Such suggestions could even help in Veeresh’s and Chandrika’s personal growth.
My impression is that many sannyasins were on the make in one way or another. So if Canada criticises snake oil therapist 1, he may criticise snake oil therapist 2 and 3 etc. Peoples livelihoods are at stake, remember, so they get defensive.
