Closed Door Meeting near Resort

(Adapted from Indian News reports of June 13th by SN Editors)

Leading rebel Indian sannyasins  held a closed-door meeting in Koregaon Park, (near the Resort)  on Thursday. Here they are below…

Apparently they hope that action will now be taken against members of OIF Pune for their claimed last year’s infringement of IPR after the events in Switzerland.

The decision of the Swiss government to (provisionally) suspend the Zurich based Osho International Foundation (OIF) board members after allegations of misappropriation of financial assets has reaffirmed the faith of these particular sannyasins in Pune, making them optimistic that a similar decision will be taken in India as well.

Since last year,  there have been allegations of intellectual property rights (IPR) infringement, but the matter has not received judgement in India and as often the case in the sub-continent continues for many months and probably years for resolution.  Actually there are no signs of anything being done as yet.

The rebel sannyasins holding a closed-door meeting in Koregaon Park on Thursday, expressed hope that a time will come soon when they will be allowed to enter the Osho Samadhi (which is in the Resort), without having to to remove prayer beads and wear only a particular kind of robe; other disciples, who claim they have been barred from entering the Resort, are hoping that they will be given fresh opportunity soon.

Yogesh Thakkar alias Swami Premgeet was of the opinion that “The nature of the crime committed in OIF Pune is similar to what had happened in Zurich. They have proved that the financial benefits of public charitable trust of OIF and Neosanyas Foundation were being transferred to private companies of trustees”  Premgeet fails to say these are alleged infringements subject to appeal, and speaks as if the matter is proved, which seems unwise anyway, whatever his opinion.

Premgeet went on to say that his group have already filed an interim application at Mumbai Charitable Commissioner office in December 2011 and also filed a petition in Bombay HC last June but it seems nothing has happened to further the matter.

Another rebel sannyasin, Ma Bodhipratima, said, “I am hopeful the Ashram will be soon open for all to dance, sing and meditate.”. Rather an odd statement as what has been called a Resort for years is open and many people there have been dancing, singing and meditating since Osho’s death nearly 15 years ago.

Meanwhile, Ma Amrit Sadhana, spokesperson of OIF, Pune, said, “I am not aware about this meeting.”.  Asked to offer comment  about the view among the rebel sannyasins that a similar restraining order to that provisionally passed in Zurich will be passed in India, she said, “I can comment only should such a Court Order come through.”

I do not know why the writer keeps calling these disciples rebels; they know what has been happening, like many others, me included, and they have acted accordingly to change the power structure, they are acting in a very rational, effective way.

I am glad things will change for the better. Enough of all this control, and enough of all these compilations and editing of Osho’s words. The people from the Resort have acted out of greed and love of power. It is time they step down.

  2. alokjohn says:

They are rebelling against their master, really cool (not).

    • shantam prem says:

Can you explain, Mr. Alok John, which party is rebelling against their master?

      • alokjohn says:

“The rebel sannyasins holding a closed-door meeting in Koregaon Park on Thursday, expressed hope that a time will come soon when they will be allowed to enter the Osho Samadhi (which is in the Resort), without having to to remove prayer beads and wear only a particular kind of robe.”

        1. When the orange clothes were dropped in ’85, Osho was asked about the mala. He said you should only wear it when meditating at home. I think there is a video discourse where Osho says this.

        2. In the summer of ’89, Osho set up the robe rules for the Resort; maroon during the day, white at night.

  3. Parmartha says:

This must be the plain clothes brigade.
They look like bank clerks on a day off.
Where are the Arunites? I was expecting an ‘orange’ presence as he issued the call to arms. Not a mala or orange piece of clothing in sight! Clearly if the place does collapse there will be competing factions.

    • swami anand anubodh says:

I would suspect they are all dressed as ‘civilians’ so as to appear less threatening and more acceptable to the Indian government.

      Btw…

Is ‘closed door’ part of the new transparency?

      • Parmartha says:

Good point about the transparency of a closed door! …. Anubodh…

Good try at explanation about the wearing of the civvies…but most agree there are three streams to this “rebellion” against the Resort, one the Arunites, the other the straight Indians who want some official Samadhi site there, and then the odd-balls like Rajneesh – don’t know where he would fit in!

  4. Parmartha says:

    Cannot accept Mandiro’s view.

I cannot see the power structure changing. These guys are protected by the most expensive lawyers available.

But if the power structure did change then it would just be one power elite replacing another, and all the problems would resurface under a different banner.

I am not at all sure, as Alok John indicates, whether those who Osho himself indicated would carry on his work, and were close to him, should be so maligned or replaced anyway. Where is the surrender to the Master’s wishes in that?

    • satyadeva says:

“The rebel sannyasins holding a closed-door meeting in Koregaon Park on Thursday, expressed hope that a time will come soon when they will be allowed to enter the Osho Samadhi (which is in the Resort), without having to to remove prayer beads and wear only a particular kind of robe.”

This sounds rather too nationalistic to me. I demand the right to a revised Osho hymn book and Book of Common Prayer.

But as Parmartha says, this could take years to sort out and, by the look of them, perhaps beyond the lifespan of a few of the protagonists…I’m reminded of my old History teacher, Harry Mees, who would at times remind us, when discussing long-term issues, motives and so on, that “in the long run, we’re all dead!”

Still, from a detached viewpoint, it’s interesting to observe how a ‘living religiousness’ – apparently almost inevitably – degenerates into just another religious institution, split by well-meaning yet warring factions, who make a big deal over trivial issues of dress and rituals, disputing power and policy issues, arguing over how best to present the master to the world, each coming from a different outer and inner place and perspective: different nations, cultural backgrounds, psycho-spiritual stages (call it ‘consciousness’) and so on…

      A microcosm of the world, I suppose…

From a non-detached standpoint, difficult to be optimistic, frankly. Anyway, as Harry would say, in the long run….

      • Parmartha says:

Your old history teacher, SD, pinched his quote from Maynard Keynes (who was a great economist…unlike these modern day economists who almost always get their predictions wrong…and get paid a lot to do so).

Osho used to say that the various run-ins with the geography and politics of Wasco County and Oregon in general, etc. was “his whole entertainment”.

Frankly, what is going on around the ‘Pune Jewel’ gives me the same sort of entertainment in present time….

  5. lokesh says:

As a quick reference point here is how slightly elderly rebels look style-wise in 2014.

  6. shantam prem says:

Best will be leader of both the groups commit joint suicide and meet Osho in the celestial body. Otherwise there is no way to find out who is following the words by spirit.

As the humanity is, even the worst criminals will find some sympathiser, maybe in their clan, in their family, in their race.

Let us say, if there is a voting among the 1000 randomly chosen sannyasins of 25-plus years of sannyas behind them, Britishers will be the ones to stick with the present regime, rest will overwhelmingly oppose as it is a mockery on the intention level.

PS: When I say Britishers, it does not include Scottish. Anyway, in few months they may chalk their own identity on the world stage.

  7. lokesh says:

“When I say Britishers, it does not include Scottish.”
Phew! That is a relief…now where did I leave my bagpipes?

  8. shantam prem says:

Point is, even the countries involve the citizens, create referendums.
Why the Osho Pune Management feels hesitant?

Do they not have trust in their master´s people and His teachings?
People who have spent thousands of hours listening His talks, thousands of hours in meditation and yet such people cannot be trusted by the regime; somewhere something is fundamentally wrong.

    • satyadeva says:

Surely a moment or two of considering the practicalities of such a proposal would convince you it’s next to impossible, Shantam?

For a start, how would you ensure against corruption? Even the basic necessities like voter eligibility and registration would present massive logistical headaches. And where and/or how would they vote? Who’d run the show, worldwide?

You tell us exactly how it could be done, making sure there’s no possible loopholes for everlasting protest, ill feeling and resentment – and then we’ll see if it might be worth considering.

    • Parmartha says:

You forget your Master, Shantam, in all this. He was opposed to ‘democracy’ in his ashram, and said so in Pune One a number of times.

We were there for a personal growth through surrender to the Master’s will.
Osho was not asking us to agree or disagree with him, but to become one with him.
Whether such a path of surrender suited the modern age, etc. is a moot point, but it was basically a surrender trip in which “referendums” would have been the last thing anyone would have been thinking about!

      • shantam prem says:

Parmartha, problem with your good-heartedness is that you have no idea how the game is being played in Pune.

        Somehow ignorance is bliss.

And I hope you are aware, surrendering to master is one thing, surrendering to his successor is also similar, but surrendering before the will of the chairman is almost like making love with the photographer who was hired to click the marriage photos.

  9. anand yogi says:

Victory be to the magnificent seven samurais of truth in the picture!!
    Jai! Jai ! Yahoo!Osho!
Their meeting behind closed doors at last signals the will of the true Sannyas in a new age of truth and transparency for all of us!
Of course prayer beads and different coloured robes are a must!
How can the religion of consciousness that must last a thousand Yugas possibly hope to flourish in any other way?
We must not lose sight of what is truly important!

Soon we will be singing and dancing in the Samadhi without that cursed symbol of Britischer oppression – the white socks.
And the curse of the alcohol-soaked Anglo-Saxons who have tried to destroy our religion will be finally banned and sent to prison by the justice of Indian courts to serve their karma, with, deservedly, their place in the Akashic records replaced by a place in the criminal records!

And do not forget in your prayers, my brothers and sisters, to send positive energy to those guardians of enlightenment energy…Swiss lawyers, to whom those in future generations of followers of the future Osho lineage will be eternally grateful for their role in the preservation of enlightenment!

Let us waste no time in installing Rajneesh and Arun in their rightful places in the Pyramid and in the Samadhi, so that all true devotees can, with orange robe and mala, hurl ourselves at their holy feet!

    in that whole madhouse happening.
Sorry to say that it is not funny for everyone -

  11. shantam prem says:

    Anand Yogi,
Rajneesh and Arun will not be allowed to play active role in Pune Ashram management because of conflict of interests.
Though they will be surely welcomed like all disciples.

    • anand yogi says:

      Shantam,
On whose authority do you pronounce this?
Let me remind you that you are not even the doorman in our commune of the future, you are merely a very small player sitting at a semen-stained keyboard making bloated proclamations.

And when the time comes, the new regime may not need the services of a “Hindi typist” as you call yourself.
Times have moved on, you are not so young any more. ‘Hindi typists’ are as common as rickshaw wallahs, and most are younger and fresher than you!

In Africa, they have a saying:
“Just because a monkey has mounted a female monkey in years gone by it does not make him the head monkey now.”
Tread carefully, bhai, your credentials may not be as big as you think they are!

  12. shantam prem says:

Blessed are the people who become disciples after master’s death. For them, every boy friend of their mother becomes father.
Art of survival is itself a science.

PS: Dedicated to the Indian Nepali tradition of religious foremanship.

  13. shantam prem says:

My situation has become like a medical student who wanted to become plastic surgeon to do breast implantations but became gastroenterologist.

When I hear or read the Arun and Rajneesh fanatics, my heart bleeds for poor Jayesh and Amrito. Somewhere I think with people like Anand Yogi around, one really feels Patriarch is dead and the over-zealous are hell bent to turn Osho´s ashram into some kind of Hindu subsidiary.

My own understanding is Arun and Rajneesh are fighting for a Nobel cause like many others, it is out of their gratitude for master but little dicks around them are too over-zealous.

Osho´s last wish was to run the commune ( Amrito´s voice one can hear in thousands of discourses as introduction, “Talks given at Osho Commune International Pune India”.) by group of 20 people who are dedicated disciples and have no other interest other than Him.

So in a way, if inner Circle member goes to some other teacher/master he ceases to be part of management team. Similar interpretation was, if you are awake, what the hell you are doing here? Though one can modify this tradition a bit to, “You are welcome as disciples.”

    • satyadeva says:

Yet, don’t you think the “over-zealous” fanatics – Anand Yogi being a prime example – should somehow be included in any true representation of the Sannyas diaspora, Shantam? For after all, history demonstrates, does it not, that such extremists are excluded from recognition, from acknowledgement, at the risk of highly dangerous – even indeed, catastrophic consequences – for the more sensible ‘moderates’? I mean, just look at contemporary Iraq and Syria, contemplate Al Qaeda, the Versailles Treaty of 1918 – and, too close to home for comfort for you, the appalling scenario at the Golden Temple…No need at all to labour the point!

My feeling is, Anand Yogi might well be the tip of a rather sinister neo-radical Iceberg that threatens to ‘tip over’ the Sannyas Movement, possibly even in similar fashion to the Titanic itself! If we don’t want to be swallowed up in the freezing cold Ocean of such zealotry, then realistically, there’s only one option:

Co-opt Mr A. Yogi and his Crew into the mainstream, allow him and them at least a voice at the Top Table, dowse his fire with ‘sweet reason’, laced with the calming balm of Oshoic compassion, via his more seemly channels, including yourself, Shantam, and those of similar bent.

      • shantam prem says:

The way Osho has written the final chapter of his work before leaving the body and the way it was followed by the management till the end of last century, chances of ambiguity were minimum.

        Now it is all mess.

Somewhere I am doubtful mystery will ever be created again in Pune. Whether Indian or westerns; both are showing their narrow-mindedness.

Maybe it is the effect of too many books, too many discourses; when knowledge is used as wisdom we don´t eat Bananas, we slip on them.

        • frank says:

          Re banana wisdom…

“Existence is hilarious. If you have eyes to see the hilarious points you will be surprised. Everybody is slipping on banana peels. You just need a little insight to see.”

          Osho

    • anand yogi says:

      Shantam,
This obsession with breasts and other female body-parts is severely hampering your journey to enlightenment!

And you say “My heart bleeds for poor Jayesh and Amrito”.
      That is your mind speaking!
      Drop it!

Your mind is now having doubts about the Osho`s vision that you have worked hard, from your chair, to achieve!
Do not give up now,at this, the moment of our greatest victory!
Do not let your monkey mind disrupt the unstoppable force of enlightenment!
Surrender to the unstoppable force of enlightenment that will be sweeping through the generations of lineages!

      Remember well the saying:
“When monkey wears turban, it will certainly fall off!”

And pay no attention to this fool Satyadeva, with the name of an Indian but the mind of a western baboon!
His logic is sharp, but when he uses it to try to understand life, the effect is only of a razor blade swishing through diarrhoea!

Of course, all disciples are welcome, but you, like Parmartha, in your good-heartedness, simply do not understand how the game will be played in Pune.

Yes, all disciples are equally welcome.
But some are more equally welcome than others!

      Jai!Jai!
      Yahoo!
      Osho!

      • satyadeva says:

Don’t you appreciate the open-hearted offer I’m suggesting, Mr Anand Yogi? Calling me a “baboon” and likening my considered proposals for ameliorating the current dire state of Sannyas Politics to slicing through liquid excrement with a razor blade hardly constitutes a conciliatory response, does it? No, it is nothing but sheer, manipulative ‘monkey business’.

I am proposing offering you and your ilk an Olive Branch – yet you throw it back in my face – and, no doubt, on the floor as well – as if I were offering you a mere banana! (And, may I remind you, bananas are very good for the body, just see how many are soon to be publically consumed at Wimbledon, for example).

I urge you to reconsider – otherwise the good offices of those like myself might well metamorphose into something quite ‘different’…And then the diarrhoea would truly swamp the Razor Blade – bananas or no bananas.

The Choice is yours, a very simple one:
Eat the bananas (there are several ripe ones) on offer – or, ‘Go Bananas’ and, inevitably, be forced to sweep them up.

Do you understand what I am getting at, sir?

        • frank says:

          SD,
I don`t think you will get much sense out of this Yogi guy.

I must admit, I thought he might be genuinely clinically insane or even a spoof, but having read Arun`s comments about Modi and the future of religion and politics in India in the new thread, I can see that he is simply for real.
          Spooky!

          • satyadeva says:

Yes, there’s no doubt at all he and his obsessive type represent a considerable threat to all right-thinking, non-compulusive thinkers (not to mention rightly non-thinking ex-thinkers) everywhere.
