Tomorrow Never Comes

Here is a story of Osho that made us laugh at SN on a very wet Saturday!  Of course like many stories that Osho told, it is not his. It was culled from his endless sadhana of reading. But it hits the mark alright!

A king became very angry with his prime minister for certain reasons, and. he sentenced him to death. It was the custom of that country that whenever a person was going to be crucified, the king himself used to come and see him. He was going to be crucified in the evening, so the king came in the morning. He came on his beautiful horse.

The prisoner could see the horse outside the window. The king came in, and the prisoner started crying.

The king said, ‘ Are you afraid of death?’

And the prime minister said, ‘No, I am not crying because of my death, I am crying because of the horse!’

‘When I was young I lived with an alchemist. I learned from him the art of teaching a horse to fly. But only a certain kind of horse can be taught. I have been looking for that special kind of horse my whole life  and today you have brought the horse!  I am crying because my long apprenticeship with the alchemist, has gone in vain! Now I will be dying in great turmoil.’

The king became very enchanted with the idea that the horse could fly. If it were possible then he would be the only king in the whole world whose horse could fly! He said, ‘How long will it take to teach the horse?’

The man said, ‘Only one year.’

The king said, ‘Okay, I trust you. I give you one year! If you can teach the horse to fly, not only will you be released from this sentence of death but you will get half my kingdom also. And if the horse cannot fly, of course, after one year you will be killed, so there is nothing for me to lose. ‘

The prime minister took the horse and went home. His family asked , ‘What has happened?  Have you escaped from the prison? ‘

The prime minister laughed and said, ‘Let me tell you the whole story!’ He told the whole story.

The wife started crying even more loudly. She said, ‘I know that this is absolutely false. You don’t know any art, you have never been an apprentice to any alchemist. Now this will be even harder for us. This whole year I will have to suffer now!’

The prime minister said, ‘ In one year anything can happen. The king can die, I can die, the horse can die! Everything is possible. One year is long enough — much is possible. And I am free. Don’t be worried!’

And the end of the story is unbelievable: all three died!

The following from Wikapedia, seems to me, to say something about how much control Osho had, or didn’t have on events that went on because of the energies he unleashed by rarely saying no.

The black swan theory or theory of black swan events is a metaphor that describes an event that is a surprise (to the observer), has a major effect, and after the fact is often inappropriately rationalized with the benefit of hindsight.

The theory was developed by Nassim Nicholas Taleb to explain:

The disproportionate role of high-profile, hard-to-predict, and rare events that are beyond the realm of normal expectations in history, science, finance, and technology
The non-computability of the probability of the consequential rare events using scientific methods (owing to the very nature of small probabilities)
The psychological biases that make people individually and collectively blind to uncertainty and unaware of the massive role of the rare event in historical affairs

Unlike the earlier philosophical “black swan problem,” the “black swan theory” refers only to unexpected events of large magnitude and consequence and their dominant role in history. Such events, considered extreme outliers, collectively play vastly larger roles than regular occurrences.[

I don’t find it to be funny or one of Osho’s best and the moral is a tad thin. Yeah right, tomorrow never comes! Even Shantam knows that tomorrow always comes.

The biggest moral of the story is that for women, ‘today’ is not enough. “I love you means that I will also love you tomorrow.” (Now that is one of Osho’s best!)

Arpy, I don’t see the Osho Episode as a Black Swan Event. Osho’s trick wasn’t the ‘yes’ but the ‘giving of permission’. There is a huge difference. Osho didn’t invent anything, but just placed himself infront of a pre-existing need for experience.

the future does not exist because the planet hasn’t got one.

World on course for catastrophic 6° rise, reveal scientists.
Fast-rising carbon emissions mean that worst-case predictions for climate change are coming true.

By 2020 the Arctic will have warmed to create a completely ice free ocean for one month of winter. This is causing increased heavy longer winters in Europe. Crops will become unplanteable in early spring due to excessive cold.

Luckily most of us won’t be here by 2050, when there won’t be an arctic. And the water will be flooding London Shanghai and New York.

Beyond 2050 the global heating is in meltdown, catching its own fire. The global sinks for trapping heating gases are overwhelmed. The game is over. Because nothing is being done now to control tripling CO2 growth patterns. Seeing a yearly tripling since the 1990′s.There is no intention of reducing this, in fact drilling for oil has started in the Arctic already.

Check out how few people control US Policy through controlling the cash influence and the mindset.Notice that China is the world’s largest consumer of energy as of today.

It seems Osho and our drive to consciousness is synchronistic with any desire for consciousness to re-invent itself somewhere else in some other forms.

Here, after us, and during our lifetimes, its over.

why all new age spiritual teachers are selling DVD and Books @ crazy price ???

    • Lokesh says:

You obviously don’t know about my cut-price Osho books stall on Ibiza. One for 4 Euros, 5 for 20 order now and avoid the rush. Only one left!

      • prem martyn says:

Are they selling as if there is no tomorrow by any chance or will I have to order one and have it available in spanish time.. ie… ma’n'ana , ma’n'ana…?? (tomorrow , always tomorrow )

        • Lokesh says:

That’s what’s cool about Spain. If you don’t feel like doing something you can always put it off until manaña and manaña never comes. On the other hand it’s a bummer if you need a plumber, because he never shows up, but promises he will fix your burst pipe…you guessed it….manaña.

Greeks have manaña in their DNA and take it with them everywhere they go. It doesn’t get much done, but what is the hurry? (he says with sad face)

So Martyn, Finally when earth is going to finish her life span by man made reasons?
Who knows that day we all become awakened!

    • prem martyn says:

If you have any worries I’d buy land in Greenland or Scandinavia where the summers will get longer and the year will remain more like mainland europe is now.

You dont want to be around any time 2050 onwards. Crop failures will be endemic, even if the bees carry on which is highly unlikely at those temperatures, even if we stop pesticiding them now. Einstein reckoned, 4 years after the bees go, humanity starves,
With a rising world population there is little point in reducing emissions really, because the demand grows exponentially and remains the same within the critical periods needing change.

Syria has had 10 years of lowering/absent rainfall causing migration to cities and poverty, because of harvest failures and pasture loss. All the Arab springs were triggered by massive bread price hikes. Conversely the EU consumers throw away a third, 30 percent of the bread produced ,(Austrian Consumer Body statistics) because of sell by dates, the bread going directly to landfill, and consumer waste of recently purchased domestic fresh bread.

In Syria near 100, 000 killed since war started.

Mexico’s drug wars were fuelled by a collapsed economy unable to grow and sell wheat domestically…. the poor peasants not being able to grow wheat commercially…. why ? Because when Mexico defaulted on its loans in the 80′s and 90′s Canada and USA came in and offered them help if they joined the Wheat Growers Cartel Of North America,… the peasants costs were higher per bag than industrial wheat was.. hey presto they start emigrating to the cities and the drug barons take over the local emptied economies and desperation, by selling drugs to the yankees.
Near 100, 000 killed in the more than ten years since the wheat cartel started.

Awakened ? Only if we find that these realities help us to define the limits of collective narcosis. It may just do that, by this seeker stuff we label as potentially transforming, but I really doubt that this planet is the only place in time and space reserved for experimental evolution. The universe can wait and play as long as it wants.

We couldn’t make the story up if we tried….

Electric bees will save the world in the nick of time.

I reckon it will need something like achieving your own Allotment and then spreading one’s good humanure all around, for everyone to enjoy our final deckchairfulness….

although re-arranging them will lettuce then funnel all our collective , planetary, Titanic efforts.

It’s all a question of allowing existence, ….to go with the floe.

In reference to “Tomorrow Never Comes”
Strange, odd, surprising, peculiar, irregular statement. All are you hypnoted???? If anything comes in this existence that is only TOMORROW. Nothing comes in the life except TOMORROW. We are standing on today but it was TOMORROW once upon. If we have anything that is TOMORROW and this is the problem.
Note : Sorry, I am just kidding ………..and you are right “Tomorrow Never Comes” but daily I have to face a TOMORROW. You don’t know how??????????????
