Enlightenmentites!  A virus from India..

Seems like a craze for fully charged inner light is in Indian DNA. For more than five thousand years Indians are reading the scripts about the benefits of enlightenment, the biggest one is that one is free from the chain of misery. Drop merges with the ocean and becomes ocean; Ahhh!  -  is one such example used thousands of times per day in different Satsangs in all most all the towns and cites.

Osho made this word universally famous. Enlightenment became like a walled and mounted new TV model.  A little expansive but affordable. If you don´t get it on Sunday,  you will have time enough until Saturday to save and buy it!

The wonder of it is, is that after Osho´s departure, there is an even bigger bumper crop of Mushrooming enlighteneds from these Indian shores.

Every time I see the photo of one such person – yes -  you lazy bone time wasters on sannyasnews, if this chap has got it, rest assured you will also get it.  Just treat your writings as the meditation whereby you approach.

Howsoever, even if it is just some kind of jealousy, the epidemic enrages me. If the word or the state of Enlightenment has lost all its real shine in such a short time, the blame goes solely on Osho sannyasins.. … …
What Christianity did in 2100 years with God..  Bearded Osho priests have done the same with Enlightenment in a generation!

Other than a few greedy souls looking for Enlightenment virus transmission through the sneeze, the majority of seekers look at them as if some Chinese is selling Original Rolex in 5 Dollars!

I think we need to classify a new kind of narcissistic disease. ie. Enlightenmentites!
Ref.  Accompanied photo is of  new arrival on the scene. Lotus in the muddy pond!

Most important to talk about new man who part of big panoramic vision to change the world into big buddhafield. More important charge money to come in. Whoever wrote the article didn’t sign it … doh.

    1. You are jealous because you are not enlightened yourself.
    2. The enlightened always criticise the other enlightened … it’s the nature of the game.
    3. I have no beef with these ‘newly enlightened ones’, as long as they don’t try to impress sannyasins … otherwise, they are up for a laugh.
    4. To anyone who might be interested, I am selling enlightenment certificates for £3K.

Do you guys remember when Osho used to shine a pen-torch on ppl’s third-eye?

    5. Osho third-eye, pen-lights £2K.

“3. I have no beef with these ‘newly enlightened ones’, as long as they don’t try to impress sannyasins … otherwise, they are up for a laugh.”

As if sannyasins are somehow so very ‘special’…

Would you be prepared to go and “laugh” at these people yourself, confront them on your own, without the support of any confederates? It’s one thing for a Master to criticise and/or poke fun at another Master, quite another for the ‘unenlightened’ to do likewise. Osho could handle himself in such circumstances, he was able to stand alone. But if you need to hide behind the support and protection of a laughing ‘crowd’, well, I suggest you’re hardly qualified for the challenge.

Besides, why should these ‘enlightened ones’ “try to impress sannyasins”? Are sannyasins so important in the scheme of things? Do they have some sort of monopoly on Truth or Love? What sort of ego-trip is that, eh?!

Most probably not. The chances of me and any of these enlightened ones crossing paths are remote. Who is the chap in the flower anyway?

I will approach the question on how sannyasins are different, somewhat differently … artisans of the near past will first make a name for themselves and then open an atelier and take on students who will make more than 80% of the work and the master will finish it, sign it, and the work will be known under the master’s name. Some of these students stay on to work under “the big name” for the rest of their lives but the ones who leave to start on their own, forfeit the right to mention “the big name” and they will have to start making a name for themselves.

Sannyasins working under the Osho umbrella are pointing to the moon and understand that enlightenment does not exist. Those that declare themselves enlightened are basically saying that they have reached Osho’s level to which I say, pa! Show me at least 25 Rolls Royces …

To me, all sannyasins are enlightened unless they prove otherwise.

        • satyadeva says:

Depends what you understand by “enlightenment”, I guess. There are apparently many realisations along the way, at various levels, and for most the process takes many years – and then you have to live it, which I hear is another matter altogether…

Your final sentence sounds like utter and complete tosh. I trust it was written with tongue firmly in cheek?!

Btw, if the chances of you actually meeting one of these Indian guys are so remote, why even bother to make your initial comment re “up for a laugh” anyway? You seem rather hung up on a ‘collective identity’, thinking of yourself as being part of a very ‘superior’ spiritual outfit, a notable characteristic of many sannyasins, in my experience. Sounds misguidedly smug to me.

          • satyadeva says:

Why these repeated references to “sannyasins”, a quite large, very disparate group? Why not simply speak for yourself, for your own experience?

As it is, you’ve claimed an ‘enlightenment’ which, from current evidence, would appear to be more than somewhat bogus, Swami!

Unless, of course, you’re playing the ‘non-serious’ card (a common sannyasin cop-out), which would deprive what you’ve written on this matter of any substance.

First you claim that I have claimed and then you attack my claim.

And yes, I do have a high opinion of sannyasins. Kill me for it.

              • satyadeva says:

                Vartan, yesterday you wrote:

You seem to be saying there’s no such thing as ‘enlightenment’ (unless, perhaps, for Osho?!). But then you also say:

“To me, all sannyasins are enlightened unless they prove otherwise.”

Presumably, that includes you, doesn’t it?

Sure I question you, as you have written unadulterated nonsense! Don’t worry, it’s that I’d want to “kill”, not you.

                • bodhi vartan says:

It’s not called crazy wisdom for nothing.

                  >“To me, all sannyasins are enlightened unless they prove otherwise.”

                  >Presumably, that includes you, doesn’t it?

Good one (hehe) but irrelevant because what are the odds of me bumping into myself. Trust me that if I bump into you I will treat you as enlightened because to take sannyas means that you have seen something more than yourself and that hopefully that has made you into a better human being.

                • satyadeva says:

You certainly have a facility for attempting to wriggle out of a tight corner…

However…”It’s not called crazy wisdom for nothing” sounds like that old ‘I’m-not-being-serious’ Get-out-of-Gaol card, played by sannyasin sophists for decades. Sorry, you may think the Goose is Out, but the Cell Door remains firmly closed in this case!

Likewise “Good one (hehe) but irrelevant because what are the odds of me bumping into myself?”
All those years of meditation and you still haven’t encountered ‘yourself’? Dearie me! Enjoy your Christmas gruel, sir! (he he).

As for the final two lines, since when has becoming “a better human being” necessarily denoted ‘enlightenment’? Respect would be a more appropriate response, wouldn’t it? Otherwise we’re just being lazy, self-satisfied, not seeing ourselves or others as they are, thus cheapening the concept and the process.

  4. Preetam says:

Me, most Osho Sannyasins perhaps; more over the New Age scene are people at large educated in Schools – Universities of mostly half truth, restricted through spiritual Archetypes and illusory Ideas, kept in stupidity. It causes an Inferior complex and hinders our ability looking at truth. Re – spectator of once self would make apparent what hinder manifest our natural freedom into the material world. Neither positive nor negative helps, only assurance would prove, not Ideas of virtue, so far my standpoint.

Confusion caused by half truth creates boarders within humans mind; it separates and weakens Folk at whole. Better finding back our
similarities, and not allowing of getting separated.

Vartan, ask the editors of snews!
May be they got it from Osho Times, Osho news, viha connection or times of India!

  6. Lokesh says:

I’ll hazard a guess and say that Shantam wrote this piece. His distinct prose gives it away and coupled with the delivery of piercing insight into the human psyche and an incredible grasp of today’s global-spiritual fifth dimensional issues, and their existential complexity, it could be none other than the master of twisted metaphor himself. Hats off to Shantam.
The big question that is, of course, on everyone’s mind is what will Shantam do with that Oscar he’s been trying to get his hands on for years.
(I asked Oscar this very question and he responded by blushing and asking if the grass really does grow by itself?)

  7. shantam prem says:

I was nagging the editors to print my name with this piece. I hope now my senior colleagues like Herr Lokesh will not classify me as racist.
I have taken the cream of Osho´s Indian spiritual scene by its collar. By doing this, got deleted by many long time friends on facebook.
