I think Franks ”joke” is a really interesting phenomena, because he knew exactly what he was saying, he knew what the likely outcome would be, and I find it interesting how, certainly to me, different something seems when done consciously, rather than when somebody posts something here and they obviously have not considered what may follow from what they are posting, which is to say unconsciously. (Also for me part of posting the ”joke”, part of your joke is to do with the notion of ’'I know, that you know, that I know you know I know humor, if that means anything to you.)
I also post this consciously, fully aware of the possible reactions to my comments.
So this is actually a commentary upon consciousness, using Franks ”joke’’ as a starting point, and I entirely agreed with Tan’s response.
Also occurs to me there is no complaint about consequences when something is done consciously.
To feel a victim follows from unconsciousness.
Everybody knows that Frank is just playing a role, it is not him. If it would be him, he could not do the ”joke”.
Exactly
Yes,I think that Frank, being the elite class intellectual Briton that he is, was ironically adopting a phallocratic position in order to deconstruct the disguised phallogocentrism at the heart of pseudo-liberal posturing inherent in anti-phallocratic ideologues.
I KNEW thats what you were up to.
Same goes for any decent comedian, raconteur etc., eg Dave Allen, Billy Connolly – and that weird Indian guy who made a living telling dirty jokes…You know, the one wiv all them Rollers, the one who got kicked outa the States, the one wot took drugs regular, the one who got his followers to scream at each other, break their arms in naked fights and screw all day – you know, that one.
Awesome though Frank can be, apart from the odd character discrepancy; comparing him to that Indian comedian is probably guilding Frank a lot
I was agreeing with the basic principle you cited, Arps. ie conscious very good, very funny…unconscious not good, leaves bad taste in mouth!
I realise that!!!
I enjoy praising and poking at Frank at the same time.
