Today I heard that Michael Barnett (formerly Anand Somendra) has died, a day or so ago.
Coincidentally, only yesterday I was thinking, in some detail, of my experience of him, both positive and negative, mainly confined to ’growth/healing’ (or was it ’shrinkage/damage’?!) groups in those faraway years of ’76/’77, plus a ’marathon’ weekend in early ’73.
Quite a character he was, gifted, ’mercurial’, innovative, compassionate, courageous – and, of course, an Arsenal fan…
On the other hand, he also could be somehow rather vain, foolish, misguided in his treatment of group ’clients’ (of which I was most certainly one), and ’too clever by half’, as it were.
A good man though, all in all, and he’s no doubt in a good place roght now….
Yeah, SD, I did a group with Somendra and was left with similar impressions. I was quite new to the whole therapy number and young at the time. When it all comes down he was one of the boys.
Synchronicity (of a kind)?
